COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Senior Eric Nilsson (Weston, Mass./Weston) broke the Northwestern record in the 200 fly in the final swim of his collegiate career Saturday morning at the 2009 NCAA Championships.
Nilsson swam a time of 1:44.05 to break the six-year-old school mark of 1:44.06 set in 2003 by Kellan O'Connor. Nilsson finished 21st in the race, .43 of a second out of 16th place and a berth in the consolation final.
Nilsson concludes his career with three individual school records after his effort Saturday. He also holds the NU marks in the 500 free and 1,000 free.
In his other individual races at the 2009 NCAA meet, Nilsson took 17th in the 200 free and 25th in the 500 free. He concludes his career with five All-America honors earned during previous appearances at the NCAA Championships.
