Spencer Captures ALC Offensive Player of the Week Honors

March 3, 2009

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Junior Danielle Spencer (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) becomes the second-straight Wildcat to take home American Lacrosse Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors after netting five goals and winning six draw controls in Northwestern's 22-10 ALC victory at Vanderbilt Friday. Penn State's Margo Joseph was named the Defensive Player of the Week, with Ohio State's Alayna Markwordt taking home Rookie of the Week honors.

Spencer was one of three Wildcats to total five goals against the Commodores, with four of them coming in the first half. Her fourth goal of the game may have been the biggest, rocketing a shot past Vanderbilt goalkeeper Rachel Woolford with one second remaining in the half to give the 'Cats a 9-6 lead heading into the break and squashing the momentum the Commodores had started to build after scoring two late first-half goals. Spencer also won six draw controls for NU and was two-for-two on free position attempts.

She becomes the third Wildcat to earn ALC Player of the Week honors this season after senior Hilary Bowen (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) was named Offensive Player of the Week and junior Maggie Bremer (Upper Arlington, Ohio/Upper Arlington) took home the Defensive POW nod last week.

Spencer and the rest of the Wildcats wrap up their season-opening five-game road trip at ninth-ranked Georgetown Saturday, March 7, in Washington, D.C. The game also marks the 2009 Friends of Jaclyn Brain Tumor Awareness Challenge with the opening draw scheduled for 1 p.m. Central time.
