EVANSTON, Ill. -- Wildcat sophomores Amy Jaeschke (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) of the women's basketball team and Michael Thompson (Chicago, Ill./Lincoln Park) of the mne's basketball team have been named the Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week for their performances last week.

Jaeschke contributed 12 points, six rebounds and five blocks in NU's 62-53 victory over Minnesota last Monday, leading NU to its most conference wins since 2002-03. She poured in a team-high 19 points and pulled down seven boards on the road against Penn State and again came up big versus Iowa on Sunday, scoring 16 points on 7-of-12 shooting while leading the team in rebounds with six.

Thompson earned Big Ten Player of the Week honors following NU's wins at Indiana and against Iowa last week. The sophomore point guard averaged 15 points, 4.5 assists and 2.5 steals per contest in the two games and committed only two total turnovers. Against the Hawkeyes Sunday, Thompson hit a trio of 3-pointers on consecutive possessions to bring NU back from a seven-point deficit.

This week's Community Service Athletes of the Week are Mark Ison (Powell, Ohio/Oletangy Liberty) and Amado Villarreal (Englewood, Colo./Englewood) of the football team, who hosted a group from the New Trier Special Olympics organization at the men's basketball game against Iowa on Saturday. Mark and Amado provided a tour and accommodations for the group, which received its block of tickets from a donation by former NU football player and current New York Giant, Barry Cofield.
