COLUMBUS, Ga. -- Rain continues to fall in bunches Saturday morning at the NFCA Leadoff Classic, causing the day's slate of games to be pushed back again. Northwestern's contests against Long Island and Georgia Tech have been moved to 4 p.m. CT and 6 p.m. CT, respectively.
The Columbus area has been under a tornado watch since late Friday night, with storms continuing to roll through. Stay tuned to this page on NUsports.com for further updates.
11:35 a.m. CT UPDATE: It is just past 12:30 p.m. here in Columbus, Ga., and the rain has left the area. Unfortunately, it took 10 teams from the NFCA Leadoff Classic field with it. After those teams who bussed to town took off for home following nearly a full day of soaking rain and severe thunderstorms, 11 teams remain and will attempt to play softball. NFCA Leadoff Classic officials are working hard to prepare three fields for action after the deluge, and hope to play two sessions tonight beginning at 5:30 p.m. CT/6:30 p.m. local.
Northwestern still will play Long Island in a game slated to start at 5:30 p.m. CT/6:30 p.m. local, and now is scheduled to face Hofstra immediately after that contest. If there are further changes to this schedule, they will appear on this page.
COMPLETELY UNRELATED SCHEDULE UPDATE: In a schedule note completely unrelated to the NFCA Leadoff Classic, Northwestern's game at Georgetown on March 26 now is a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. CT./3 p.m. local. The contest originally was a single game.
