Wildcats Fall In Quarterfinals Of Big Ten Match Play, 4-2

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. -- Despite a valiant effort down the stretch, the eighth-seeded Wildcats fell to top-seeded and sixth-ranked Illinois in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Match Play Championship, 4-2. Andy DeKeuster won his match at No. 3, 2 and 1, while freshman Eric Chun improved to 2-0 on the tournament by winning 4 and 3 at No. 2 while playing bogey-free on the day.

Northwestern will face Iowa in the consolation bracket Saturday morning. Tee time is set for 8:30 a.m. ET.

At No. 6, Matt Denison fell in a tightly-contested match to Mason Jacobs, 1 up. Zach Barlow downed Josh DuPont at No. 5, 4 and 3, while Jonathan Bowers fell to Luke Guthrie at No. 4, 3 and 2.

DeKeuster, after winning his morning match by default over Penn State, came out for the afternoon session and took care of business, defeating Chris DeForest at No. 3, 2 and 1.

Chun completed a spectacular day of golf, going bogey-free on the day and defeating his opponent in convincing fashion. After winning 6 and 5 earlier today, Chun followed it up with a 4 and 3 win over Matt Hoffman at No. 2.

At No. 1, David Lipsky battled hole-for-hole with Scott Langley, but fell 1 up on the final hole.
