EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern's national champion women's lacrosse team was honored during halftime of the men's basketball game against Wisconsin Saturday, Jan. 31. The Wildcats, who received their national championship rings, were met by a standing ovation from the sold-out Welsh-Ryan Arena crowd.
With all four national championship trophies in tow, the `Cats took to the floor during halftime with each player being introduced individually and congratulated by Director of Athletics and Recreation Jim Phillips and Associate A.D. of Intercollegiate Services Noreen Morris. NU captured its fourth-straight crown by defeating Penn 10-6 on May 25, 2008, at Johnny Unitas Stadium in Towson, Md., finishing the year with an overall record of 21-1.
The Wildcats have already embarked on the defense of their crown, defeating Denver 24-6 in the season opener on Friday, Jan. 23, in San Diego, Calif. Northwestern will be back on the field Tuesday, Feb. 17, when it takes on Duquesne in Pittsburgh, Pa., before a top-20 showdown with Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind., on Friday, Feb. 20.
