EVANSTON, Ill. -- Wildcat senior Emily Kyle (San Francisco, Calif./San Francisco University H.S.) of the field hockey team and junior Mike Kafka (Chicago, Ill./St. Rita) of the football team have been named the Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week for their performances over the weekend.

Kyle stopped seven shots in her final home game at Lakeside Field, helping NU earn a 3-1 win against Indiana for its first league victory of the season. Kyle has now vaulted into fourth all-time for career saves at Northwestern (391) and her Big Ten-leading 130 stops in 2008 are the ninth-most in a single season by a Wildcat goalie.

Kafka rushed for a QB Big Ten-record 217 yards and tossed two touchdown passes to lead Northwestern past No. 20 Minnesota, 24-17. Kafka's ground gains, which included runs of 53, 38, 30 and 28 yards, were the most for NU since then-freshman Tyrell Sutton rambled for 244 against Wisconsin in 2005. The junior also found freshman Jeremy Ebert and sophomore Josh Rooks for first-half TD strikes.

This week's Community Service Athlete of the Week is Jake Herbert (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny). Herbert and other members of the wrestling team volunteered at the Women's Club of Evanston Fairy Tale Trail. Fairy Tale Trail is a non-frightening, fully accessible fantasy-filled labyrinth where children of all abilities interact with costumed characters from well-known tales and explore sensory-stimulating activities in eight storybook-themed rooms. Jake and other student-athletes dressed up as various costumed characters to assist with this event.
