Challenge at Wolfdancer First Day Results
AUSTIN, Texas -- Northwestern sits in ninth place after the first day of competition at the second-annual Challenge at Wolfdancer, finishing at 48-over through the first 27 holes. Play was suspended midway through the second round because of darkness and will resume at 8 a.m. Monday morning.
Seeking to defend their 2007 team title, the Wildcats finished the first round in ninth-place with a 35-over 323, one stroke back of eighth-place Missouri State. Sophomores Kelsey Lindenschmidt (West Chester, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) and Rebecca Lederhausen (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) had the low round for NU, as they both finished with a 7-over 79 and in a tie for 21st-place. Fellow sophomore Innapha Tantanavivat (Bangkok, Thailand) completed the opening 18 holes two strokes behind the pair, finishing with a 9-over 81. Freshmen Alexandra Lederhausen (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) and Kylie Fuller (Temecula, Calif./Chapparal) rounded out the scorecard for the `Cats, entering the clubhouse with an 84 and 87 respectively.
The 16-team field commenced the second 18-holes, but were unable to complete the round before the sun set. The Wildcats halted play just past the turn, and will begin play at 45-over and remain in ninth-place, four shots behind eighth-place Nebraska and hold a three-stroke advantage over Big Ten rival Iowa. Tantanavivat now sits atop the NU leaderboard, as she is even through the first nine holes of the round and is 9-over for the tournament.
Alexandra Lederhausen has catapulted into second for the Wildcats, as she will also begin on the 10th-hole after shooting a 1-under 36 through the front nine and is at 11-over for the Challenge. Her sister Rebecca is at 14-over and will tee off from the ninth hole, while Lindenschmidt begins on the 12th at 15-over. Fuller begins the day at 22-over and begins from the 10th hole as well.
There is no clear-cut favorite at the Challenge after the first day as Colorado currently holds the tournament lead at 32-over, two shots better than second-place Idaho and five better than host Texas State. Iowa (38-over) and Texas Tech (39-over) round out the top five, while Michigan and the College of Charleston are tied for sixth at 40-over, four shots better than the eighth-place Huskers.
Play resumes at 8 a.m. Monday morning as teams will complete the second round, following which the pairings for the final round will be released. The final round is scheduled to begin at around noon Monday. Live scoring of the final day of the Challenge at Wolfdancer is avaliable at Golfstat.com.
