EVANSTON, Ill. -- Senior Eric Nilsson (Weston, Mass./Weston) has been named the Big Ten's Swimmer of the Week following his performance in Northwestern's meet against No. 16 Purdue on Friday, Nov. 7.
Nilsson won all three individual events he swam, first winning the 200 free by over a second, touching the wall at 1:38.07. He then captured the 200 fly by a razor-thing .02 margin, racing to the finish with a winning time of 1:49.88. Nilsson completed the hat trick with a decisive win in the 500 freestyle, posting a time of 4:33.11.
The award is the third-such honor of Nilsson's career.
Northwestern returns to action with two meets this week, beginning at 5 p.m. CT Thursday, Nov. 13, at Wisconsin before returning home to entertain both Illinois-Chicago and the University of Chicago at 1 p.m. CT Saturday, Nov. 15, at the Norris Aquatics Center.
