EVANSTON, Ill. -- Wildcat junior Emily Wong (Nepean, Ont./Saint Joseph's) of the swimming and diving team and senior Jake Herbert (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) of the wrestling team have been named the Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week for their performances over the weekend.

Wong swept all three sprint freestyle events and swam on the winning 200-free relay Friday to lead No. 20 Northwestern to its second consecutive victory against Purdue. Wong first came away with a half-second victory in the 200 free, swimming a time of 1:51.48. She then won back-to-back events in the 50 and 100 free races, swimming a 23.67 in the 50 and a 51.67 in the 100.

In his first competition with Northwestern since winning the 2007 NCAA championship, Herbert won the 184-pound open division at the Michigan State Open on Sunday. Top-ranked Herbert posted three pins—including one in just 14 seconds—on his way to the finals, where he registered a 14-1 major decision to earn the title. Herbert now has 119 career wins, fourth all-time at NU.

This week's Community Service Athlete of the Week is Jeremy Nash (Chicago, Ill./Marist) of the men's basketball team. Jeremy was a mystery reader in Ms. Candice Cooper's first-grade class at St. Joan of Arc Elementary School on Friday after being invited by one of Ms. Cooper's students, Ethan Griffin. Jeremy read several stories to the class and Ms. Cooper, who is a Northwestern alum and former Wildcat field hockey player.
