SAN MARTIN, Calif. -- A second-straight late-round charge helped Northwestern vault two spots on the final day of the 54-hole CordeValle Collegiate, giving the Wildcats a seventh-place finish in the 12-team tournament.
One day after playing the final six holes of the course in a combined 4-under par, Northwestern played the last five holes in 8-under par as a team Wednesday to leap into seventh place with a final tally of 46-over 1,125 (382-376-368). The Wildcats' final-round 368 was tied for the third-best total of the day.
The Wildcats ended up nine strokes in front of eighth-place and 27th-ranked Lamar, while finishing six strokes shy of sixth-place and sixth-ranked Arkansas. No. 4 USC won the tournament with a three-day total of even-par 1,080, 26 strokes ahead of second-place No. 11 Stanford.

Chun went out in 3-over in his final round before birdying three times on the way in for a final-round even-par 72. His 217 was comprised of rounds of 72-73-72.
Lipsky has finished in the top-20 in each of NU's four fall tournaments, twice earning top-10 placements. Chun's top-10 is the first of his collegiate career after taking 13th at Northwestern's Windon Memorial in his previous best finish of the year.
Junior Jonathan Bowers (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Watterson) fired a final-round 3-over 75 to conclude his tournament in 45th place with a 13-over 229 (79-75-75). Bowers had a tough opening nine Wednesday, but made two birdies on the back and added an eagle on the par-5 15th hole to help card a 1-under 35 in his second nine.
Junior Matt Denison (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) had an up-and-down final round, making seven bogies against five birdies, but playing the back in 1-under par to finish the day with a 2-over 74 and the tournament with a 14-over 230 (80-76-74).
