Pett, Ratner Named First-Team Academic All-District

EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern senior Drew Ratner and junior Carl Pett have each been named to the ESPN The Magazine Men's Soccer Academic All-District V First Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). By virtue of the honor, both student-athletes are now eligible for Academic All-America consideration.

It is the second such honor of his career for Ratner, a native of Dallas, Texas. He was also a first-team selection a year ago. A defender, Ratner has helped the Wildcats post a school-record 11 shutouts so far this season while pitching in with two goals (both game-winners) and two assists. He carries a 3.62 grade-point average as a psychology major.

Pett, a native of Northbrook, Ill., is a senior academically and a junior in terms of athletic eligibility. He sports a 3.61 grade-point average as a major in English. A first-team All-Big Ten pick a year ago, Pett has scored a goal to go along with two assists so far this season.

Northwestern (12-1-2, 3-1-0 Big Ten) is ranked No. 6 in this week's NSCAA poll and has been ranked as high as No. 2 this season, the top ranking in school history. The Wildcats battle Michigan State for the top spot in the Big Ten standings at noon Central time Sunday. The contest is being televised live by Big Ten Network.
