EVANSTON, Ill. --
Junior Samantha Murray (Altrincham, England/Altrincham Grammar) and freshman Elena Chernyakova (Moscow, Russia/No. 150) are both still in the hunt for a singles title at the ITA Midwest Regional Tournament at Michigan State. Murray defeated Shannon Matthews of Notre Dame, 6-4, 6-2, while Chernyakova overcame Akron's Zaruhi Harutyunyan, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, to advance to the quarterfinals.

Two other singles matches took place between representatives from Northwestern and Notre Dame in the round of 16. UND managed to the get the best of Northwestern in one match as Kelcy Tefft defeated NU senior Nazlie Ghazal (Temecula, Calif./Chaparral), 6-1, 6-4, while Kali Krisik knocked out Northwestern junior Lauren Lui (Houston, Texas/Kinkaid). Lui blanked Krisik, 6-0, in the first set but dropped a tight 7-5 decision in the second half and could not rally in the third, losing 6-4.

In doubles play, Lui and partner Georgia Rose (Mettawa, Ill./North Shore Country Day) reached the semifinals with a win against Kristin Flower and Julie Blackmore of Ohio State, 8-3. In that semifinal match, however, DePaul's Dunja Antunovic and Kristin Gambrell managed to score an 8-5 win against Lui and Rose.

Sophomore Maria Mosolova (Moscow, Russia/No. 204) and senior Keri Robison (Decatur, Ill./Keystone National) reached the quarterfinals before losing a 9-7 decision to Tefft and Frilling of Notre Dame.

The Midwest Regionals continue Monday with the doubles championship at 9 a.m. followed by singles action in the afternoon. Complete results are available at the top of the page in PDF format.
