EVANSTON, Ill. -- Two of Northwestern's doubles pairs continued their march through the doubles bracket at the ITA Midwest Regional tournament hosted by Michigan State. Georgia Rose and Lauren Lui punched a ticket to the quarterfinals, as did Maria Mosolova and Keri Robison. In the main draw of singles action, five of six Wildcats won their opening round matches.

Mosolova and Robison won their third match of the weekend, posting an 8-6 result against Elizabeth Carpenter and Aleksandra Markovic of Michigan State. Rose and Lui, ranked seventh nationally by the ITA, reached the quarters with an 8-4 win against local foes Anna Redecsi and Sandra Zmak of DePaul.

In singles play, junior Samantha Murray avenged her loss in doubles play with a 6-2, 6-0 win against Alaina Trgovich of Wisconsin to lift her 2008 fall singles record to 5-3. Freshman Elena Chernyakova captured a three-set win over Nitooli Wilkins of Minnesota (6-4, 3-6, 6-1) to reach the second round.

Senior Nazlie Ghazal took down Joanna Craven of Purdue, 6-2, 6-4, while classmate Robison scored a victory against Stephanie Danesis of Miami, 7-6 (5), 6-1. Ghazal and Robison are now set to square off against each other in the round of 32.

Lui rounded out the day's winners for NU, matching her success in doubles by scoring a 7-5, 6-1 decision against Big Ten foe Alexis Dorr of Iowa.

Freshman Stacey Lee lost a very tight opening round match to Tania Mahtani of Michigan, 6-2, 5-7, 7-5. She came away with a win in the consolation bracket, overcoming Cami Hubbs of Ohio State, 6-2, 6-4, and will now take on Whitney Wilson of Michigan State.

Once the round of 32 got underway, it was another chance for Northwestern to show off its depth as four Wildcats won singles matches to reach the quarterfinals. The only loss for an NU player, Robison, came at the hands of one of her teammates, Ghazal. Murray defeated Gia McKnight of DePaul, 6-3, 6-3, while Chernyakova defeated Denise Muresan of Michigan.

Lui stayed in contention with a 6-2, 6-2 victory against Julie Blackmore of Ohio State.
