2008 Lady Northern Invitational Final Results
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Northwestern dropped two spots over the final 18 holes of the Lady Northern Invitational, finishing in a tie for 13th-place with a 103-over 967 at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex. The Wildcats finish tied with Toledo, four shots back of 12th-place Penn State.
NU began the day in 11th place, but dropped back two slots after shooting a 44-over 330 on the afternoon. It was a rough day for all of the Wildcat golfers as no one was able to shoot a round in the 70s. Freshman Kylie Fuller (Temecula, Calif/Chapparal) had the best outing of the day for the `Cats, shooting an eight-over 80 to finish the tournament fourth among NU golfers with a 30-over 246. Senior Jennifer Hong (Windermere, Fla./The First Academy) and sophomore Kelsey Lindenschmidt (West Chester, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) entered the final round in a tie atop the Wildcat scorecard, and finished the same way as both shot an 83 in the final round to finish the two-day tournament with a 25-over 241 and ended in a tie for 43rd-place. Sophomore Innapha Tantanavivat (Bangkok, Thailand/David Leadbetter Academy) shot an 84 on the day to finish two strokes back of both Hong and Lindenschmidt, with freshman Alexandra Lederhausen (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) rounding out the Wildcats with a 34-over 250.
For the second time in as many tournaments, Purdue ran away with the team title, shooting a 31-over 895 to defeat second-place Michigan State by 17 strokes on its home course. Notre Dame finished one shot back of the Spartans in third-place, with Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio State rounding out the top six. Among Big Ten schools, Minnesota finished seventh, followed by Iowa at eighth, Wisconsin 10th and Illinois 11th. The Boilermaker's Maria Hernandez walked away with the individual title, shooting a one-over 217 on the weekend, defeating teammate Maude-Aimee LeBlanc and Michigan State's Laura Kueny by four strokes.
Northwestern closes out the fall portion of its 2008-09 schedule this weekend at the Landfall Tradition in Wilmington, N.C. Known as one of the top tournaments in the nation, the Wildcats will be going head-to-head with a handful of nationally ranked programs. The Landfall Tradition is a three-day tournament, with the first round getting underway Friday, Oct. 24, followed by the second round Saturday, Oct. 25, and the final round Sunday, Oct. 26.
