WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Northwestern got off to a rough start at the 2008 Lady Northern as the Wildcats find themselves in 11th-place after the opening day of the tournament, shooting 59-over 635 at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex.
NU found itself in four-way tie for seventh-place after the opening 18 holes, shooting a 24-over 312 along with Iowa State, Ohio State and Penn State. Senior Jennifer Hong (Windermere, Fla./The First Academy) and freshman Alexandra Lederhausen (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) both put together a five-over 77 opening round and were tied for 22nd-place. Freshman Kylie Fuller (Temecula, Calif./Chapparal) was a stroke back at six-over 78, followed by sophomore Kelsey Lindenschmidt (West Chester, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) at eight-over 80 and sophomore Innapha Tantanavivat (Bangkok, Thailand/David Leadbetter Academy) at nine-over 81.
But the second round saw a drop-off for the `Cats, as NU dropped back to 11th after shooting a 323. Lindenschmidt and Tantanavivat both lead the Wildcats by shooting a six-over 78, as Lindenschmidt and Hong are tied atop the Northwestern scorecard with a 14-over 158 and are tied for 41st-place. They lead Tantanavivat by one stroke as she finishes the day with a 15-over 159, followed by Fuller (20-over 164) and Lederhausen (21-over 165).
Coming off its victory at the Windy City Collegiate Classic a week and a half ago, Purdue is in control of its own tournament, shooting 17-over 593 through the first 36 holes and holds a nine-stroke advantage over second-place Notre Dame and are 11 strokes better than third-place Michigan State. The Wildcats head into the final 18 holes holding a three-stroke lead over Illinois and Minnesota in 12th-place and trail both Michigan and Penn State by 10 strokes.
