EVANSTON, Ill. -- Head coach April Likhite and Northwestern will stay close to home this weekend when they compete in the 5K Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational hosted by Loyola (Chicago) Saturday at Montrose Beach. One of the largest races in the country, the women's race is set to begin at 11:45 a.m. and features 27 colleges and universities, including Alabama, DePaul, Missouri and Milwaukee.
Northwestern last competed in the Loyola Lakefront Invitational in 2006 when it nabbed fifth place out of 19 teams. Current senior Allison King (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) was the high finisher for the Wildcats that day, taking 18th overall.
NU has finished second as a team in each of its first three meets on the strength of strong performances by upperclassmen as well as freshmen newcomers. First-year Sophie Ewald (Berlin, Germany/Droste-Huelshoff Oberschule/Barron (Wis.)) has led the Wildcats in each of the last two meets, claiming third and second-place overall, respectively. Carly Brown (Kalispell, Mont./Flathead) is also off to a solid start in her senior campaign having placed fifth and third overall in the first two races of the season.
