Quinn Earns Second Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week Nod in 2008

Sept. 22, 2008

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Continuing her early-season tear, senior Alexandra Quinn (Watertown, Mass./Watertown) has been named Offensive Player of the Week in the Big Ten for the second time in three weeks. Quinn scored 11 points on four goals and three assists for Northwestern over the weekend and sits atop the conference leaders in goals scored with 10.

Quinn, a four-year starter in Evanston, has now scored in six of Northwestern's last seven games and has brought her career scoring total to 24 goals and 13 assists. With 10 games remaining, Quinn is six goals away from cracking Northwestern's top 10 lists for both career goals and goals in a single season.

In NU's 6-1 defeat of Saint Louis, Quinn had a hand in five of Northwestern's six goals. After assisting on the 'Cats' first two goals, Quinn dribbled down the field uncontested and put away the rebound after her first shot was saved by SLU goalie Alex LaBarge.

She helped stretch the lead when she assisted on a goal by junior Elizabeth Dobbs before scoring again 10 minutes into the second half.

Against Robert Morris, Quinn opened the scoring five minutes into the game when she slotted home a loose ball in front of the net. She struck again in the second half when she took a through pass from senior Annie Bosslet and dribbled around the goalkeeper before hitting the back of the cage.

With the wins, NU improved to 4-0 at home in 2008.

Quinn's 23 points this season rank second in the Big Ten behind Linda Haussener of Ohio State (24).

Northwestern (5-4) returns to action Saturday when it opens Big Ten play against No. 16 Michigan at 10 a.m. in Ann Arbor, Mich. The 'Cats will then take on No. 19 California Sunday at noon.
