NU Slips in Final Round at Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Junior David Lipsky (La Canada, Calif./La Canada) fired his second-straight round of par or better, but Northwestern slipped one spot Sunday on the final day of the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational to finish 13th in the tournament.

Lipsky turned in an even-par 70 Sunday to conclude the tournament in 11th place with a 4-over 214 (76-68-70). As a team, Northwestern had a third-round score of 18-over 298 to finish the Invitational with a 51-over 891 (308-285-298). The Wildcats bested both Purdue (892) and SMU (909) while finishing one spot behind UCLA (886).

Host Illinois won the event by 11 strokes over Indiana, with the Illini's Zach Barlow sharing medalist honors with Indiana's Alex Martin with a 1-under 209.

Lipsky made two birdies and two bogies during his Sunday round. Also making a pair of birdies and a pair of bogies was sophomore Ravi Patel (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley), who also recorded a double-bogey to card NU's second best score of the day, a 2-over 72. Patel was 69th in the tournament individually after a rough first day, ending up with a 24-over 234 (86-76-72).

Freshman Eric Chun (Ansung City, South Korea/International Christian School) shot a 1-over 36 on the front nine, however a 5-over 40 on the backside gave him a final round total of 6-over 76. His 12-over 222 (77-69-76) put him in 33rd place overall.

Coming off a 2-over 72 on Saturday, junior Matt Denison (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) had a 10-over 80 on Sunday to end up 67th in the field with a 21-over 231 (79-72-80). Josh Dupont (Poway, Calif./Cathedral Catholic) rounded out NU's competitors in the tournament with a three-day 25-over 235 (76-77-82).

Northwestern is off until it hosts its own Windon Memorial Classic October 5-6 at North Shore Country Club.
