Stefan Demos Named Big Ten's Special Teams Player of the Week

Sept. 1, 2008

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern sophomore punter/kicker Stefan Demos (Scottsdale, Ariz./Horizon) was named the Big Ten Conference's Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday (Sept. 1). It is the first weekly honor for Demos.

Demos earned the honor after displaying pin-point accuracy with his punting in the Wildcats' 30-10 victory over Syracuse. He landed all six of his punts inside the Syracuse 20-yard line. Three of the six punts fell inside the 10-yard line. With the exception of one drive early in the second half, the Orange never began a possession deeper than their own 33-yard line.

Demos averaged 32.0 yards per punt, but the Orange only totaled 4 punt return yards in the game.

Demos also handled NU's kickoffs and his placement helped keep Syracuse's Max Suter, one of last year's top return specialists, in check. Suter averaged just 19.8 yards per return on five kickoffs.
