Wildcats Fall To LSU In First Game Of Lakeside Invitational, 2-0

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern carried momentum for large portions of their evening contest against LSU at Lakeside Field but the Tigers scored two second-half goals to down the Wildcats in the first game of the Lakeside Invitational, 2-0. Senior midfielder Jeanette Lorme (Santa Clarita, Calif./Saugus) paced NU with four shots and one on goal.

Northwestern took the first five shots of the game with Alicia Herczeg (Agoura Hills, Calif./Agoura) forcing an early save and Lorme hitting the post in the opening 10 minutes. LSU took two shots before the end of the half, but the first frame ended scoreless for the second time in NU's two contests this season.

LSU got on the board in the 54th minute, but NU tried to even things up when Laura Janowitsch (Grafton, Wis./Grafton) came in from the back to force a save by the Tiger keeper. LSU opened up a 2-0 lead in the 75th minute. Sam Greene forced a save in the 85th minute, but NU could not get on the board and fell 2-0.

Carolyn Edwards made two saves in the loss. Lorme led NU with four shots and Herczeg fired off three. Nine Wildcats played the entire 90 minutes under clear, but muggy conditions at Lakeside Field.

The Wildcats return to the pitch at 3:30 p.m. Monday against Illinois State. It is the second game for NU in the Lakeside Invitational. LSU and Loyola (Chicago) will play at 6 p.m. Monday evening to wrap up the tournament.
