'Cats Stumble Against Northeastern in Season Opener

EVANSTON, Ill. Northwestern lost its season-opener at Northeastern Saturday, dropping a 3-0 decision against the Huskies in Boston. The Wildcats were unable to recover after Northeastern jumped out to an early lead when it found the back of the net 9:47 into the contest.

Senior Alexandra Quinn (Watertown, Mass./Watertown) led the way for Northwestern (0-1) with two shots on goal against Northeastern. Junior Courtney Plaster-Strange (Louisville, Ky./Kentucky Country Day) and sophomore Kendra Sirak (Dallas, Pa./Wyoming Seminary) also registered two shots each for the Wildcats attack.

The Huskies (1-0), who received votes in the preseason STX/FTCHA poll, got things started with a one-timer by Pam Aldridge off a feed from Anne Stuhlman following a penalty corner. Northwestern kept it a one-goal game until three minutes into the second half when Carolyn Malloy converted a pass from Kaela Barker. Katie Ruth capped the scoring at when she deflected in a shot at 59:15.

Northwestern senior goalkeeper Emily Kyle (San Francisco, Calif./San Francisco University H.S.), currently fifth on the school's all-time saves list had six saves for the purple-and-white.

The 'Cats return to the turf Sunday, taking on No. 14 Boston University Sunday at 1 p.m. CT.
