EVANSTON, Ill. -
Northwestern's student-athletes not only excelled in competition but also in the classroom during the recently completed spring quarter. Of the 19 intercollegiate teams, 17 posted a cumulative team grade point average over 3.0 during the term, including seven who were above a 3.25.
"Once again, our student-athletes have shown an outstanding commitment to excellence in the classroom," Northwestern Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation Jim Phillips said. "Their efforts are to be commended, as well as those of our coaching staffs and academic services department. A great deal of thanks also goes out to our University's outstanding faculty and staff who do a tremendous job of working with all students."
Overall, Northwestern student-athletes combined to post an impressive cumulative GPA of 3.14 in the spring quarter. The women's cross country team earned the highest team GPA in the spring at 3.61.
A total of 46 NU student-athletes earned Academic All-Big Ten recognition during the spring season, while 156 overall received the honor during the 2007-08 academic year.
