EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern Assistant Equipment Manager Meli Resendiz has earned the 2008 Glen Sharp Award as the Athletic Equipment Manager of the Year, presented by the Athletic Equipment Managers Association (AEMA).
Resendiz, an 18-year veteran of the Northwestern equipment staff, was honored with the national award after years of leadership in her field. She has served on the AEMA District V board for 15 years, eventually rising to the role of district director in 2004. In her first term, she was the district director for the Cleveland national convention, and has conducted workshops at several other national conventions.
Resendiz implemented and currently maintains the District V Web site, and organized three annual winter meetings and symposiums to stress professional development among her peers. She has served on many advisory councils during her career, including with McDavid, Under Armour and Adidas.
Prior to earning the national award, Resendiz won the Tony Anderson Award in 2006 as the AEMA District V outstanding equipment manager.
Resendiz is a 2006 graduate of Northwestern's Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences (WCAS), earning a BA in psychology.
