EVANSTON, Ill. -- The Ricky Byrdsong Foundation and YWCA Evanston/North Shore is hosting its ninth annual "Race Against Hate" at 8 a.m. Sunday, June 22. The 5K race is dedicated to the honor of former Northwestern men's basketball coach Ricky Byrdsong, who was tragically killed in a hate crime in his suburban Chicago neighborhood on July 2, 1999.
The race will begin at Long Field, on the corner of Lincoln Street and Sheridan Road in Evanston, and travels south along Sheridan Road to Greenwood Avenue, and back. Following the 5k race, a one-mile kids run will be held for youth runners.
Participants may register both online and in-person for the event. On-line registration will close at midnight Thursday, June 19. After the closing date, you may register in person at the YWCA Evanston/North Shore on Saturday, June 21 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. or on Race Day beginning at 6:30 a.m. at the registration tent on Long Field.
Pre-registration is $25 for the run/walk and $10 for the Youth Mile. Race day registration is $30 for the run/walk and $12 for the youth mile.
