EVANSTON, Ill. -- Junior Hilary Bowen (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) has been named a first-team Academic All-American by ESPN the Magazine, announced today by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). She was named to the Women's At-Large team, encompassing all women's sports except volleyball, basketball, track and field, softball and soccer.
Bowen, a human development and psychological services major, was a first-team Academic All-District V selection, making her eligible for the All-America ballot. She also recently picked up Academic All-Big Ten honors.
The two-time NCAA tournament Most Outstanding Player, Bowen was an integral part in helping the Wildcats to their fourth-straight national championship in May. Her 81 goals on the season is a new NU single-season record, and her 101 points ranked third in the country. An Inside Lacrosse first-team All-American, Bowen ranks fifth all-time at Northwestern in goals (164) and is sixth in points (233).
Bowen becomes the second lacrosse Wildcat to capture first-team Academic All-America honors, joining Courtney Koester in 2005. Koester also received third-team Academic All-American status in 2004.
