May 28, 2008

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern freshman Ravi Patel (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) has qualified as an amateur for this weekend's Nationwide Tour event, the Bank of America Open at the Glen Club in Glenview, Ill., after finishing third in a general qualification tournament Tuesday in Bolingbrook, Ill.

Patel shot a 3-over 75 at the Bolingbrook Golf Club to earn one of 14 qualifier spots in the Bank of America Open, which runs Thursday through Sunday, May 29-June 1. Patel, who became the youngest player in state history to win the Illinois Amateur title with his victory in 2007, was one of 192 competitors in two qualification events seeking a spot in this weekend's Nationwide Tour event.

Patel will join fellow Northwestern golf alumni Fran Quinn (1987), Jess Daley (2000) and Tom Johnson (2004) in the Bank of America Open field. The Glen Club is one of Northwestern's home courses, playing host to the 2005 Big Ten/Pac-10 Challenge and featuring the brand new Luke Donald outdoor practice facility. The Tom Fazio-designed course opened in 2001 and has been the home of the Bank of America Open (formerly the LaSalle Bank Open) since 2003.
