April 8, 2008

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Senior defensive end David Ngene (Humble, Texas/Humble) of football and junior shortstop Tammy Williams (Roscoe, Mo./Osceola) of softball have been named All-America Strength and Conditioning Athletes of the Year by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).

This year, the NSCA honored 239 collegiate athletes from 165 schools with this award. Ngene was selected by Northwestern's director of strength and conditioning Larry Lilja.

"Dave is an extremely hard working and disciplined individual," Lilja said. "He is a team player in every way, and also is a great role model for younger athletes. Dave's attitude and passion for whatever it is he puts his mind to will bring him success in all his future endeavors."

Williams was chosen by assistant director of strength and conditioning Jason Pullara.

"Tammy is an unbelievable worker," Pullara said. "Each day she strives not only to make herself better, but to make her teammates better in the process. She is a true leader and competitor on and off the field. She is a great person and role model for female athletes to look to for inspiration. She is a passionate and determined person who will continue to succeed both on the field and in life."

The NSCA All-American Athlete of the Year Award program is in its 29th year. For a complete list of All-America Strength and Conditioning Athletes, contact the NSCA at nsca@nsca-lift.org.
