WomensLax.com Player of the Week Release
EVANSTON, Ill. -- Sophomore midfielder Maggie Bremer (Upper Arlington, Ohio/Upper Arlington) was named the WomensLax.com Co-Player of the Week for her defensive performance in helping top-ranked Northwestern to victories over three top-20 opponents last week. She shares the honor with Boston College goalkeeper Katie Monaghan.
Bremer, who made her first start of the season against sixth-ranked Syracuse on March 24, was assigned to the leading scorer of each opponent and shut down each of them. She held Syracuse's Katie Rowan, the nation's leading scorer, to just one shot and shut down ninth-ranked Georgetown's Jordy Kirr, not allowing a single shot. Bremer also helped lead an NU defense that held 18th-ranked Vanderbilt's Margie Curran to just two shots.
In addition, Bremer registered a free position goal less than a minute into the second half against the Hoyas to break up a 3-3 tie and give the Wildcats a lead they would not lose. She also won three draw controls and caused two turnovers for Northwestern.
Bremer is the second Wildcat to earn honors for their defensive play this week, as senior defender Christy Finch (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) earned ALC Player of the Week honors on March 31. Top-ranked Northwestern travels to seventh-ranked Duke Sunday, April 6. Opening draw is set for 11 a.m. from Koskinen Stadium in Durham, N.C.
