RIO GRANDE, P.R. -- Northwestern fell four spots into a tie for ninth at the 15-team Puerto Rico Classic following second round play Saturday at the Rio Mar Country Club.

The Wildcats fired a 9-over par 297 during the second round to conclude the day at 11-over par, tied with No. 30 Virginia Tech. Both teams are one stroke behind No. 16 Clemson and three strokes behind No. 6 Georgia Tech. Directly behind Northwestern are No. 39 Kent State and No. 50 Texas, tied at 14 over par.

Senior Dan Doyle (Rochester, Mich./Stoney Creek) led Northwestern with an even par 72 on Saturday to bring his two-round total to a 3-over 147, good for a tie for 28th in the individual standings. Still leading the Wildcats is sophomore David Lipsky (La Canada, Calif./La Canada), who fired a 2-over 74 Saturday to make him even par through two rounds, tying him for 13th overall.

Both Kyle Moore (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Scioto) and Josh Dupont (Poway, Calif./Cathedral Catholic) are tied for 36th place at 5-over 149 following two days of play. Moore shot a 3-over 75 Saturday while Dupont turned in a 4-over 76.

The tournament concludes tomorrow, Sunday, March 2, with the final round of play.
