Murphy's Mark: NU's Director of Athletics Bids Farewell

Dec. 21, 2007

Farewell and Happy Holidays
As most of you already know, I will be leaving Northwestern at the end of the month to take a position with the Green Bay Packers. It will be very difficult to leave Northwestern. I've loved my time here. Northwestern is, obviously, a great school with an outstanding reputation.

What I will miss the most, though, are the people associated with the school and the athletic program. Henry Bienen and the entire administration have been so supportive. Our coaches and employees are all first-rate and committed to winning with integrity. I have especially enjoyed working with our student-athletes. They're bright and so dedicated to excelling academically and athletically. It is very difficult to be a student-athlete at a school like Northwestern, and I have great respect for all that they have been able to accomplish.

Finally, I would like to thank all of our alumni and fans. Your support of the program has been tremendous, and is a key reason for the success we've enjoyed in recent years. I'm confident that Northwestern athletics will continue to excel academically and athletically. While I will miss Northwestern, the Packers' position presents a special opportunity and I am excited about the chance to work in the NFL again. Thanks for all your support during my tenure here at Northwestern and have a great holiday season.
