EVANSTON, Ill. -- Ninth-ranked Northwestern routed both Southern Illinois-Edwardsville, 44-3, and North Dakota State 35-9, in the NU Duals at Welsh-Ryan Arena. The duals were its first home event of the season.

In the first clash of the day for NU, redshirt sophomore James Kohlberg (Rolling Meadows, Ill./Rolling Meadows) scored the first win for the Wildcats at 141 lbs. with a 10-4 decision over Nicholas Shumate. Redshirt freshman Andrew Nadhir (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Detroit Catholic Central) then followed Kohlberg's performance with a major decision over T.J. Warner in the 149-lb. weight class. The major decision brought the score to 13-3, which included sophomore Brandon Precin's (Orland Park, Ill./Carl Sandburg) forfeit victory. Precin's win put him at 15-0 on the season at 125 lbs.

NU upped the score to 16-3 on a decision won by redshirt freshman Kyle Bertin (Cleveland, Ohio/St. Edward), then closed out with wins by senior Nick Hayes (Council Bluffs, Iowa/Lewis Central) at 174 lbs. and three more forfeits by Southern Illinois-Edwardsville.

Against NDSU, Precin ran his record to 16-0 with a quick pin in the first match. Wrestling for the first time on the day, redshirt sophomore Eric Metzler (Luxemburg, Wis./Luxemburg-Casco) then scored a major decision for the 'Cats at 133 lbs.

Ranked No. 1 by the USA Today/InterMat/NWCA rankings at his weight class, senior Ryan Lang (North Royalton, Ohio/Lakewood St. Edward) put his opponent away with ease, scoring a 21-5 (4:39) technical fall at 149 lbs. The win put the Wildcats ahead 15-6.

Marella picked up his second win of the day, winning by a 8-3 decision over Mike Quamme with a late surge in points. Also picking up second victories were Hayes (MD, 18-4) and Kolovic (dec., 7-6).

All-American seniors Mike Tamillow (Oak Park, Ill./Fenwick) at 197 lbs. and heavyweight Dustin Fox (Galion, Ohio/Galion) wrestled for the first time this season as a part of Northwestern and helped the 'Cats onto the victory over the Bison with wins by injury default and a 15-5 major decision.
