EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern travels to San Martin, Calif., to take part in the third annual CordeValle Collegiate Golf Championship, which gets underway Monday.
The 54-hole tournament takes place on the resort's Robert Trent Jones Jr.-designed golf course from Monday through Wednesday. Eleven teams are competing in the Classic, hosted by UCLA, including: Stanford, USC, Arizona, Santa Clara, Washington, Augusta State, Texas A&M, Coastal Carolina and Lamar.
CordeValle was recently named California's No. 1 golf destination by CondeNast Traveler's June 2007 Readers' Poll and was ranked the No. 13 golf resort in North America, the Caribbean and Atlantic, Ireland and Scotland.
Northwestern is competing in the 7,169-yard, par-72 course following its third-place finish in the Big Ten/Pac-10 Challenge. Senior Dan Doyle (Rochester, Mich./Stoney Creek) led the Wildcats with a 10th-place finish overall.
Last season, NU finished in a tie for fifth place in the tournament with Doyle atop the Wildcat leaderboard in tie for fourth overall, shooting a 10-under 206.
Sunday's event marks the end of the Wildcats' fall season.
