EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern Baseball is excited to announce that Joe Girardi, New York Yankees manager and 1986 Northwestern graduate, will be the guest of honor at the 2008 "First Pitch Dinner." The event will be held Thursday, Jan. 24 at the Norris University Center's Louis Room on Northwestern's Evanston campus.

Doors will open at 6 p.m. for hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar, and the dinner to follow at 7 p.m. There will also be a silent auction throughout the event. The event will consist of an introduction by Northwestern head coach Paul Stevens, followed by Joe speaking on his experience in baseball from NU to managing the Yankees.

Entry to the event will cost $150 per person or $1,100 for a table of 8.

A four-year letterwinner for NU from 1983-86, Girardi earned first-team All-Big Ten honors each of his final two seasons in a Wildcat uniform and was a second-team pick as a sophomore. He was a third-team All-America pick of the American Baseball Coaches Association in 1985 and was a three-time CoSIDA Academic All-American.

Girardi enjoyed a long productive career in the major leagues, including winning three World Series titles as a member of the Yankees. He went on to become the 2006 National League Manager of the Year while leading the Florida Marlins and was recently named to the managerial post of the Yankees.
