  • ABLUQUERQUE, N.M. -- After matching each other's three-pointers to open the game, New Mexico (--/RV) jumped out to a 13-5 lead and never looked back, besting the Wildcats, 67-38 Sunday afternoon in the final game of the Women's Sports Foundation Challenge in Albuquerque, N.M. Northwestern is now 1-2 on the season and is next in action on Wednesday against intra-city rival Illinois-Chicago. Tip is set for 7 p.m. at the UIC Pavilion.

"This is not the outcome we expected," head coach Beth Combs said. "I think our injuries and lack of depth really caught up with us this game, but overall we learned some things and we will put our shoes on tomorrow and get back to work."

The first half was sloppy for both teams, as they turned the ball over a combined 14 times and shot under 36 percent from the field. Senior Nadia Bibbs (Chicago, Ill./Hillcrest/Boston University) led the Wildcats at half with seven points.

Playing in front of a boisterous home crowd of 7,489, New Mexico continued its offensive assault, scoring 30 second-half points to seal the win.

Bibbs was the high scorer for Northwestern with 10 points while Sara Stutz led the way for the Wildcats on the glass with five boards. Ellen Jaeschke (Cary, Ill./Cary-Grove/Air Force) added 8 points.

Jaeschke was named to the All-Tournament team.
