Sanborn Collects Another Victory at the Singles Championships

ANN ARBOR, Mich.-- Alex Sanborn (Houston, Texas/Kinkaid) picked up another victory Sunday in the main draw's consolation bracket at the Big Ten Singles Championship when he defeated Iowa's Tommy McGeorge, 7-6(2), 6-1. Sanborn was then a near miss to reaching the semifinals, falling 5-7, 6-3, 1-0(4).

On Saturday, Peter Rispoli (Naples, Fla. (St. Stephen's (Texas)) defeated Ryan Gormley of Penn State to move on to the second round before falling 6-3, 6-3 to Wisconsin's Nolan Polley.

Sanborn, meanwhile, won the first round of the consolation bracket upsetting the No. 3 seed Jeremy Sonkin of Wisconsin, 6-0, 7-5.

The tournament wrapped up the Wildcats fall season. NU picks up action again against Illinois-Chicago and University of Chicago on Jan. 13 at the Combe Tennis Center.
