Lauren Johnston Named Big Ten Defensive Player Of The Week

Oct. 22, 2007

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Senior Lauren Johnston (Denver, Colo./Denver East) has been named Big Ten Defensive Player Of The Week for her 158:05 of scoreless soccer last weekend. The honor is the first of her career.

Johnston picked up her third shutout in four games in NU's 0-0 tie against Michigan on Friday. The senior made four saves and even survived a kick to the face and black eye to play the full 110 minutes to collect the shutout, her fourth overall and third in Big Ten Play.

The game was Johnston's second straight double overtime shutout, and she played 48:05 in NU's 4-0 win over Michigan State to extend her shutout streak to 276:09. Johnston had to leave the game early in the second half after she was struck in her goal box for the second time in as many games.

The honor is the first of her career and NU's first since 2005. The Wildcats host Minnesota and Iowa this weekend at the Lakeside Field.
