Wildcat Doubles Dominate ITA Regionals

ANN ARBOR, Mich.-- After one day of draws at the 2007 Wilson/ITA Midwest Regional Championships, the four sets of women's doubles from Northwestern are 8-0 and on a collision course to face each other in the quarterfinals Saturday with one more win in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Sixth-seeded Nazlie Ghazal (Temecula, Calif./Chaparral) and Keri Robison (Decatur, Ill./University of Florida) have beaten doubles teams from Eastern Michigan and Ohio State, 8-4 and 8-6, respectively, to advance to the round of 16.

Joining Ghazal and Robison in the top half of the 64-team bracket are Alexis Conill (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla./Cardinal Gibbons) and Maria Mosolova (Moscow, Russia), who downed pairs from Butler and Michigan with no trouble, 8-1 and 8-1.

In the bottom half of the bracket and also reaching the round of 16 are Suzie Matzenauer (Tacoma, Wash./Bellarmine) and Sam Murray (Altrincham, England/Altrincham Grammar), who crushed teams from Butler and Eastern Illinois, 8-0, 8-1.

The tournament's No. 2 seed is the pair of Lauren Lui (Houston, Texas/Kinkaid) and Georgia Rose (Mettawa, Ill./North Shore Country Day), who have reached the round of 16 by winning 8-4, 8-1, over pairs from Cincinnati and Illinois, respectively.

Singles play has also begun as Conill finished the day with a win and a loss in the qualifying draw. Rose begins the main draw as the overall No. 1 seed and is joined by Lui, Ghazal and the overall No. 2-seeded Murray.
