EVANSTON, Ill.-- Northwestern has named C.J. Bachér (Sacramento, Calif./Jesuit) of football and Courtney Plaster-Strange (Hodgenville, Ky./Kentucky Country Day) of field hockey as its Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week.
Bachér led Northwestern to a thrilling 48-41 overtime victory at Michigan State on Saturday. The junior shattered a school record with 520 passing yards, the fifth-highest total in Big Ten history, while equaling a program best with five touchdown passes to lift the Wildcats to their first Big Ten win this season. He completed an outstanding 79.2 percent of his passes, connecting on 38 of 48 attempts with no interceptions. Two of Bachér's five touchdown tosses marked the longest completions of his career, scoring strikes of 78 and 70 yards in the second half. He also connected on two other touchdown passes in regulation of a back-and-forth game in which neither team led by more than seven points
Plaster-Strange scored the first, second and third goals of her season Friday against Iowa and versus Providence on Sunday. The sophomore's goal on Friday put the Wildcats within a goal of the Hawkeyes in the first half of the game. Overall, she took five shots on the day. On Sunday with the 'Cats down 3-0, Plaster-Strange went to work, assisting on the first goal of the game, then finding the back of the net twice within a minute of each other to tie the game, 3-3, and force the overtime. Overall on the weekend, Plaster-Strange earned seven points, which is the third most on the team this season.
