WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Sophomore Kate Nobilio (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) broke the Northwestern school record for digs in a three-game match, and the Wildcats swept their way to the Georgetown Classic championship Saturday night against Towson, 30-21, 30-15, 30-18.

Nobilio notched 11 digs in each of the first two games before tallying nine in the third to finish with 31 in the match. She already owns the school's four-game match record with 34, set during a 3-1 loss at Hawaii on Sept. 8, 2006.

The win improves Northwestern to 6-2 on the season and gave the Wildcats the outright title in the Classic with a 3-0 record. Towson fell to 3-7 on the year, 1-2 in the event with its loss.

Nobilio also led the 'Cats with three service aces in the match and contributed three assists.

With game one tied, 3-3, Nobilio presided over an 8-0 Northwestern run featuring kills from Chelsy Hyser (Belvidere, Ill./Belvidere) and Courtnie Paulus (Belgium, Wis./Ozaukee). The run would eventually become a 15-1 blitz after three additional kills from Lindsay Anderson (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier).

From there, the Wildcats cruised to a 30-21 game one victory.

Game two saw Northwestern roar out to a 12-1 advantage, thanks in part to four kills by Paulus and one each by Hyser and Brittani Gray (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore). The Wildcats again cruised into the finish, this time with a 30-15 game two win.

Both Paulus and Gray had six kills in game two to pace NU.

Game three was a bit closer, with NU's lead at the midway point five, 15-10. The Wildcats pulled away from there to win, 30-18. Game three was the Hyser show, with the junior planting six kills on nine swings.

Paulus led NU with 11 kills, while Gray and Hyser each added 10. Hyser's hitting percentage of .667 (10-0-15) established a career high. Elyse Glab (Chicago, Ill./Resurrection) set the first two games, notching 25 assists, while senior Stephanie Jurivich (LaGrange, Ill./St. Ignatius) set the third, earning 13 assists.

Prior to the match, Anderson was named the Georgetown Classic MVP, while Nobilio and Gray earned All-Tournament team nods.

Northwestern returns to action Sept. 14-15 in the Wildcat Classic at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
