NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The 10th-ranked Northwestern men's soccer team out-shot Dartmouth 13-7 Sunday afternoon, but neither team was able to tally as the squads settled for a 0-0 tie after two overtime periods at the Yale Soccer Classic.

The tie moves the Wildcats' record to 3-0-1 on the season while the Big Green goes to 1-1-1. Northwestern was deemed the tournament champion based on total goals in the two weekend matches, outscoring Dartmouth 3-2.

"While I'm a little disappointed we didn't get a result, I'm encouraged by the way we played," Wildcat head coach Tim Lenahan said. "Dartmouth is traditionally one of the best defensive teams in the country and they defended very well today."

The best scoring opportunity for either team came in the 21st minute when NU's Carl Pett dribbled into the box and fired a shot on Dartmouth keeper Sean Milligan. Milligan made the save, but provided a rebound opportunity for David Roth who appeared to have an open net. However, Milligan made a sprawling save to keep the game scoreless.

Four of Northwestern's five shots on goal came in the opening half of play. The Wildcats held a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks in the match.

Misha Rosenthal made two saves in goal for NU to earn his second shutout of the season.

Eamon O'Neill, who collected a goal and an assist in Friday night's win over Yale, was named the tournament MVP. Rosenthal, Roth and Matt Witt were also all-tournament team selections.

"One of our goals was to win each of the tournaments that we're playing in and we accomplished that for the second straight weekend," said Lenahan. "I think we made some good progress from last week to this week."

Northwestern returns to action at 2 p.m. Friday when it faces Butler in the opening match of the Northern Illinois University adidas/Baymont Inn Invitational in DeKalb, Ill.
