EVANSTON, Ill.-- Senior Amanda Care's (Newtown, Pa./Pennsbury) second career goal ended Friday's brief overtime and gave Northwestern a 2-1 victory over Northeastern at Lakeside Field.

Northeastern (0-1) held an 8-1 advantage in shots in the second half and held the momentum headed into the extra frame with the score tied at one. Just 23 seconds into the overtime though, Care received a pass on the right side of the field from junior Alex Quinn (Watertown, Mass./Watertown) and put the shot in the back of the net to send the Wildcats (2-1) home victorious.

"It was a great feeling, a whole team effort," Care said. "Almost everyone touched the ball on the way down field and I just happened to be in the right place at the right time."

For Quinn, it was her first assist on the year, but not her only point on the day. Less than 15 minutes into the game, Quinn took a pass from junior Jill Putnam (Greenfield, Mass./Greenfield), which she fired past the Huskies' goalie for a 1-0 lead.

Following her goal, Northeastern kept the ball on their offensive side of the field for much of the rest of the game, which led to a 15-5 advantage in shots taken and a 6-1 advantage in penalty corners.

Third year goalkeeper Emily Kyle (San Francisco Calif./San Francisco University H.S.) provided the stone wall the 'Cats needed to fend off the pressure. Kyle shut down the Huskies offense making six saves on the game despite the pressure she faced all game long.

"Once again I'm just proud of my team," coach Kelly McCollum said. "They came here ready to battle just like last weekend. No matter what happened, they persevered and battled through it."

Northwestern's next contest is on Labor Day at 1 p.m. at Lakeside Field.
