Two Golf Events, Named in Honor of Randy Walker, Set for July

June 18, 2007

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Two annual golf outings -- the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) and Northwestern Gridiron Network (NGN) -- have renamed their events in honor of former Northwestern University Head Coach Randy Walker.

In 2006, the AFCA initiated the "Crossing the Goal Line Campaign," to raise a minimum of $5 million over a three-year period to expand their involvement with youth across the country. The Campaign kicked off with a golf outing in the Chicago metro area in July 2006.

The annual AFCA outing has been renamed the Randy Walker Power of Influence Golf Outing to honor the memory of NU's coach, who died suddenly on June 29, 2006. The event is being held Monday, July 23 at Conway Farms Golf Club in Lake Forest, Ill. Corporate sponsorship packages range from $5,000 to $25,000.

The NGN's annual golf outing is now known as The Walker Open. This year's event, which helps raise money for Northwestern's football program, is slated for Monday, July 16 at the Royal Melbourne Country Club in Long Grove, Ill. Cost for one person is $350 or $50 for just the evening reception and dinner.

For more information on either event, please contact Northwestern's athletic development office at 847-491-3694.
