May 7, 2007

EVANSTON, Ill. -- The Big Ten Web site, as part of its ongoing celebration of the 25th anniversary of women's championships in the conference, has produced a feature story detailing the rich tradition and current excellence that is Northwestern softball.

From the legendary Sharon J. Drysdale and NU's four-consecutive Big Ten titles and three-straight Women's College World Series appearances in the mid-1980's to the current return to power under Kate and Caryl Drohan, the story delves into Northwestern's early commitment to Title IX and its recent resurgence that led to a championship series appearance at the 2006 WCWS.

The story even explains the Wildcats' unique symbol to remind themselves to be remarkable every single day: The Purple Cow.
