Wildcats Lose Game One 1-0 to Illinois

EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern's baseball team lost a heartbreaker 1-0 to Illinois Saturday afternoon in game one of Saturday's doubleheader. Senior Ryan Myers pitched his second complete game of the year, giving up one run on six hits. He struck out five in the process.

While Myers was dealing on the mound for Northwestern, Illinois' hurler Mike Stankiewicz was unbeatable. He allowed just one hit in seven innings, needing just 89 pitches in the win.

Junior third baseman Jake Owens (Stevens Point, Wis./Pacelli) had NU's lone hit, a single to start the third inning.

NU had just one runner reach third base in the game.

Illinois scored its lone run in the top of the sixth inning. A one-out single went to third on a slow roller to shortstop and advanced the final 90-feet on another single.

Even though Myers took the loss, he lowered his era to 3.92 and has thrown a team-high 43.2 innings.
