EVANSTON, Ill. -- No. 7 Northwestern returns home to Sharon J. Drysdale Field to host Ohio State and Penn State in the second of its three Big Ten home weekends this year.
Friday's game against the Buckeyes is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. CT, while Saturday's contest will start at noon CT. Sunday's doubleheader versus the Nittany Lions also will begin at noon CT.
The wintry weather that enveloped much of the country last weekend forced the cancellation of the majority of the conference's scheduled games. Northwestern was able to play three of its four, going 3-0 with a win over Purdue and a sweep at Indiana. Neither Ohio State nor Penn State was able to play a single Big Ten contest last week. Because of percentages, the Buckeyes currently lead the conference with a 4-0 record while the Nittany Lions are second in the standings at 2-0.
Wildcats' freshman Lauren Delaney (Jefferson City, Mo./Helias) picked up her second Big Ten Pitcher of the Week award Monday after going 2-0 with a 0.50 ERA in a pair of starts last week. Delaney now is 15-0 to start her collegiate career, and is the only undefeated pitcher in the nation with 15 or more wins.
Sophomore Jessica Rigas (River Forest, Ill./Oak Park River Forest) had a monstrous week last week, hitting .471 with two home runs (including one in a 2-1 victory at Purdue).
Senior Garland Cooper (Mission Viejo, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic) hit four home runs last week to give her a Northwestern single-season record 16 on the year. Her 0.42 home runs per game rank her second in the nation, while her 1.32 RBIs per game this year rank her fifth in the country.
Sophomore Tammy Williams (Roscoe, Mo./Osceola) currently leads the nation with 1.39 runs scored per game. She has 53 already this season, tied for the second-best single-season total in school history.
Northwestern travels to Loyola (Chicago) for a midweek game at 4 p.m. CT Tuesday.
