SEDONA, Ariz. -- Although the results are unofficial until first-round play is finished, Northwestern is off to a solid start at the Red Rocks Invitational, holding a one-stroke lead over second-place Michigan at the 16-team tournament. Darkness forced the suspension of the first round.
Northwestern's Alice Kim (Los Angeles, Calif./Brentwood School) is the tournament's individual leader, also owning a one-stroke advantage over Michigan's Ali Stinson and Wyoming's Sarah Fogerty. Kim had completed 16 of the 18 holes for the first round.
NU's Liliana Alvarez (Durango, Mexico/American School of Durango) is tied for fifth place at 2-over.
Northwestern's Heather Scholten (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) was the only Wildcat to complete her round, and posted a 6-over 78. She is in 29th place. Junior Brittany Johnston (Akron, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) is 4-over and sitting 13th.
The Wildcats' Justina Yu (Las Vegas, Nev./Bishop Gorman) is competing as an individual, and is 5-over for the tournament.
First-round play will resume early Sunday before the playing of the second and final round.
