EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern's women's fencing team not only went 6-0 on Day One of the NU Duals, the sixth-ranked Wildcats defeated No. 1 Penn State and No. 4 Notre Dame. It is especially gratifying because in head coach Laurie Schiller's tenure (29-plus years), he had never beaten the Nittany Lions.
Both of the big matches came down to sophomore Sam Nemecek (Caledonia, Mich./Caledonia) winning on the final point.
