EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern has named senior Mike Alexandrov (Champaign, Ill./Centennial) of men's swimming and senior Garland Cooper (Mission Viejo, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic) of softball its Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week.
Alexandrov was named the Big Ten's Swimmer of the Championships after amassing 60 points and winning three individual and three relay titles. He set pool, school and Big Ten records in both the 100 breast (52.24) and the 200 breast (1:52.93), while also capturing the 200 IM title.
He also swam on NU's pool, school and Big Ten record-breaking 200 free relay, 200 medley relay and 400 medley relay. This is the second Hilton Garden Inn Athlete of the Week honor for Alexandrov this season.
Cooper hit three home runs on the weekend at the Louisville Slugger Desert Classic to become Northwestern's all-time home run leader with 36. She hit blasts in victories over Portland State, UNLV and Sacramento State.
Overall on the weekend, Cooper hit .455 with a double, three jacks, eight RBIs and a 1.364 slugging percentage. This is the second Hilton Garden Inn Athlete of the Week honor of Cooper's career.
