PALM SPRINGS, Calif. -- Freshman Samantha Murray (Altrincham, England/Altrincham Grammar) continued her run at the National Collegiate Tennis Classic. Murray defeated opponents from Georgia Tech and UCLA en route to Sunday's semifinals. The duos of Alexis Prousis (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) and Georgia Rose (Mettawa, Ill./North Shore Country Day) and Alexis Conill (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Cardinal Gibbons) and Suzie Matzenauer (Tacoma, Wash./Bellarmine) advanced to the consolation doubles bracket.
Murray defeated Georgia Tech's 25th-ranked Kirsten Flower 6-2, 6-3 in the round of 16 and knocked off UCLA's 35th-ranked Riza Zalameda 7-6(5), 6-4 to advance to the semifinals.
Fellow freshman Matzenauer fell to UCLA's 28th-ranked Yasmin Schnack 7-6(2), 6-3 in the quarterfinals.
In the semifinals of the doubles bracket, the Bruins' 17th-ranked duo of Schnack and Zalameda took down Nazlie Ghazal (Temecula, Calif./Chaparral) and Keri Robison (Decatur, Ill./Keystone National), 8-1.
In the consolation singles bracket, Rose knocked off USC's Julie Smekodub, 4-6, 6-4, 6-0 and Texas' Corovic, 6-4, 6-1. Ghazal topped Baylor's Jessica Zok, 7-6(2), 7-5, but fell to Georgia Tech's Craddock, 6-1, 6-2.
Conill, Prousis and Robison fell in their consolation singles matches.
The tandem of Prousis and Rose defeated Georgia Tech's Amanda Craddock and Kirsten Flower, 9-7, while Conill and Matzenauer downed Texas' Lancaster and Zauft.
